Since 2006, Gemballa has been building custom interpretations of the Porsche Carrera GT supercar, making it perhaps the foremost Carrera GT tuner in the world. For its latest iteration, Gemballa has decided to relax the power output and focus on a decisively seductive matt black finish.
Some of Gemballa’s GTs have put out as much as 750hp (560kW), but the Matt Edition is satisfied with 670hp (500kW) on tap. That’s still about 50hp (40kW) more than the stock Carrera GT, however, and with 465lb-ft (630Nm) of torque it’s sure to be a fun ride in any gear.
Gemballa’s claimed performance stats back that up: 0-62mph (100km/h) takes 3.7 seconds, and it’ll hit 124mph (200km/h) in just 9.7. Both of those figures shave two tenths of a second from the stock times, and the power boost takes top speed up to at least 208mph (335km/h).
Beyond the power mods, the Matt Edition adds lots of exposed carbon fiber accents, a black-on-black color scheme and custom alloy wheels. A hydraulic height-adjustable coilover kit is also supplied to improve handling, as well as protect the car when any steep bumps need to be conquered.
Inside, there’s a mix of blue Alcantara and leather trim as well as carbon-fiber and aluminum accents.

Modified Mercedes Benz vehicles are far from uncommon, and the methods applied are likewise becoming rote: big, flashy wheels, aggressive bodykits and, of course, more power. Lorinser sticks with this tried and true formula and ends up with something not too dissimilar to the original specifications of the cars it modifies, not to mention several orders of magnitude more tasteful than many alternative brands.

The tuner’s latest efforts center on the Mercedes C-Class platform, in particular the high-performance C63 AMG. Lorinser plans to compete in this weekend’s Tuner Grand Prix on the Hockenheimring in Germany with its LV8 C-Class saloon, which has been pumped up to 500hp (368kW) and 442lb-ft (600Nm) of torque.
This level of tuning will see the C-Class accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 320km/h. Handling gets a boost as well, with lowering springs giving the car a lower center of gravity and slightly greater resistance to body roll. Big 19in alloy wheels focus on lightness and style, helping put the power to the ground and keep the car agile as well.

The car will compete this weekend in the C3 Class for the Tuner Grand Prix where it will be up against other tuner cars from the likes of Techart, Brabus and Kicherer.

New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Special Edition: Exquisitely dynamic, elegant and stylish
Stuttgart, Jun 16, 2009
For lovers of exclusive cars Mercedes-Benz is proud to announce the arrival of an eye-catching new version of the C-Class on the scene. The new Special Edition is set to draw admiring glances with its sporty, elegant design features, reserved for this model only, a high-quality interior plus some exciting technical highlights as part of the standard specification, including AGILITY CONTROL, ADAPTIVE BRAKE, BlueEFFICIENCY and the Intelligent Light System, ensuring that even the most discerning requirements are met for those looking for refinement, motoring pleasure and a car with a distinctive character. The Special Edition is available as a saloon and an estate and with all the C-Class engines.
Sporty passion, exciting dynamism and effortlessly superior style – these are the distinguishing characteristics of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Special Edition. The striking C-Class design that has won a number of awards has now been given an even finer, and yet at the same time more sporty, air by Mercedes-Benz through the addition of some charismatic details. Playing a major role in the vehicle’s image are its darkened front headlamps with a dark cover frame, the new indium grey paintwork (obsidian black, palladium silver, iridium silver or calcite white are also available) and 17-inch 5-spoke light-alloy wheels with mixed-size tyres (235/60 R 17 at the front, 255/55 R 17 at the rear). As an alternative there are also 16-inch 7-spoke light-alloy wheels and 205/55 R17-size tyres all round.
The optical finesse of the exterior comes courtesy of touches such as shoulderline trim strips in polished aluminium, the finned radiator in brilliant silver matt with chrome highlights and an integrated star, front fog lamps with a chrome ring and chromed twin louvres, chrome highlights in the bumper, rub strip and boot lid plus the B-pillar trim painted glossy black.
Like the exterior, the interior is based on the AVANTGARDE design and equipment line. Its aesthetics have been streamlined and its sportiness sharpened through the inclusion of further high-quality materials and carefully coordinated details. An example of these stylish elements are the seats – exclusively manufactured for the Special Edition – made from black ARTICO man-made leather with Liverpool fabric in como beige. There is contrasting topstitching in comobeige embellishing the seats, centre armrest, door centre panel and floor mats, serving to underline the dynamic theme. The floor mats also bear the “Special Edition” lettering. Leather seats are available as an optional extra – also in two-tone variants featuring black/sahara beige or black/cognac brown.
Trim parts in brushed aluminium which have been designed exclusively for this C-Class Special Edition contrast with the interior in black and beige, creating an ambience full of soul. The standard specification includes armrests with a double cup holder and a stowage compartment at the front and rear, 1/3 : 2/3 folding rear seats with a through-loading feature, a luxury multifunction leather steering wheel with a 4.5 inch display in the instrument cluster that boasts three analogue round dials with tapered tube-style surrounds, not to mention a shift/selector lever in leather, plus seat heating.
The range of equipment includes some superb technical innovations such as AGILITY CONTROL, ADAPTIVE BRAKE and BlueEFFICIENCY, helping the C-Class to set standards in the compact premium-car segment. Also part of the standard specification on board the Special Edition is the Intelligent Light System featuring bi-xenon headlamps with variable light distribution, an active light function, dynamic headlamp range control plus a cornering light function that ensures optimum adaptation to the current visibility. Yet more comfort is afforded by PARKTRONIC with its acoustic and optical distance warning.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Special Edition is available now in both saloon and estate guise with the entire engine line-up, including the redeveloped, especially powerful four-cylinder diesel engines which come complete with the assurance of their exemplary thriftiness and environmental compatibility. Indeed, it is thanks to them that Mercedes-Benz has achieved model status in this class where efficiency is concerned.
Depending on which engine is ordered, the additional charge on the respective AVANTGARDE model in conjunction with the fabric/ARTICO man-made leather upholstery is between 2,689.40 and 3,879.40 euros (between 4,629.10 and 5819.10 euros in conjunction with leather upholstery) including German VAT.

Even though the figures might suggest otherwise, ABT Sportsline is by no means now consorting with the manufacturers of heavy truck engines. The world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group has merely made it its business to take the most powerful car diesel engine of all times, built in the Audi Q7, and squeeze even more power out of it. Although the over five metres long SUV, with its standard 500 HP (368 kW) and 1000 Newton metre torque, is already a trump card which slots into any quartet. Within the scope of their “armament program” ABT POWER, the Bavarian company, has saddled it with real power, so that now when the driver puts the accelerator down a surge of HP and torque is set into motion, which even many sports cars would struggle to keep up with. For clarification: with its 6-gear tip-Tronic the 2.6 tonne vehicle slingshots itself on 100 km/h from standing in just 5.3 seconds and reaches 258 km/h. The performance curves gain as much importance as the top values, from which it is soon clear that the additional HP has not been achieved at the cost of exorbitant revolution speed, but is available just as early as in the series standard – at 3750 rpm.
ABT Sportsline of course offers a large selection of light-alloy wheels in sizes of up to 22 inch for the AS7 with the most powerful diesel engine of all time. Right in accordance with the motto “powerful engine – powerful design”. |
